Global Swahili Festival
Who We Are
The Global Swahili Festival (GSF) is a community-led initiative uniting Swahili speakers and enthusiasts across the world. Founded to honor World Kiswahili Language Day (July 7th, recognized by UNESCO), GSF provides a platform to celebrate and share the rich Swahili language and culture on a global stage. We are a diverse group of organizers and community members passionate about cultural exchange and education.
Our mandate is to cultivate unity among the Swahili diaspora and educate the world about Swahili cultural heritage. We promote pride in Kiswahili culture by showcasing its art, music, cuisine, and wisdom, and we empower our inclusive community through entertainment and positive cultural identification. By bringing people together in celebration, we strengthen the bonds of unity, diversity, and mutual respect that define the Swahili spirit.
Our Mission
“To celebrate World Kiswahili Day (July 7th) by spreading unity and education about the diverse, inclusive heritage of Swahili culture. Through festivals, events, and activities, we bring people together to honor Kiswahili's past, present, and future.”

Unity & Empowerment
We stand for umoja (unity) and empowerment of the community. By coming together as one, we uplift each other – inspiring pride in our shared culture and confidence in future generations.
Intergenerational Exchange
We create space for dialogue between generations—mentorship, storytelling, and co-creation—so knowledge flows both ways and the culture grows stronger together.
Heritage & Cultural Exchange
We cherish Swahili heritage and encourage cultural exchange. Through this festival, we celebrate traditions and create a space for dialogue – from local community connections to international diplomatic exchange – highlighting the contributions of Swahili-speaking communities worldwide.
